About

The Madison Journal of Literary Criticism offers a space for undergraduate students of literature to publish their scholarly work and engage in contemporary literary debates. It was founded in 2010 by a student majoring in English at UW-Madison, but operates independently of the English Department. Each spring, MJLC selects between 8-15 essays from across the country based on their originality, eloquence, and quality of academic research. These essays come from of a variety of fields, including English, comparative literature, and film studies. Rather than being confined to any singular theme or analytical perspective, MJLC strives above all to reflect the richness and diversity of critical thought that thrives at the undergraduate level.

MJLC also selects 15-20 UW-Madison students to serve on the Editorial Board each spring semester. These students will aid in the selection and editing of articles, in addition to setting the intellectual tone of the journal as it changes each year. The Editorial Board offers its members firsthand experience in publishing, finances, and public relations, as well as the unique opportunity to participate in a nationwide selection process. If you would like to apply for the Board, please fill out our application.
